Born on 03 June , in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, Balakrishna Bhatt was a prominent Hindi journalist, novelist, essayist, and playwright. He occupies a distinguished place among the producers of Hindi prose literature and is regarded as one of the best essayists of the Bharatendu era He wanted to rouse patriotic feelings and garner public opinion against the British government.

The paper had plays, essays, stories, etc. In his social essays, he emphasized on the education of women, widow remarriage, child-marriage, agricultural education, use of new means for farming, development of political consciousness, use of new words in Hindi language, country building, etc.

In the political essays, Bhatt exposed the evils of the British regime and highlighted issues pertaining to the drain of Indian wealth by the British, the destruction of indigenous educational institutions, culture, and cottage industries. He condemned the unfair taxes and exploitation of the common man by the landlords, and also wrote essays on self-reliance, corruption, etc.

Balakrishna Bhatt was also a staunch supporter of communal harmony. From the linguistic point of view, he emphasized the use of the Nagari script and stressed the importance of the Hindi language. It is said, that in the 19th century, he started a movement to promote the use of Hindi language. Bhatt, was a patriot in the truest sense of the word.
