During my time spent in Italy over the Christmas holidays I visited my parents in Naples and went sight seeing in Rome. I had the opportunity to have a behind the scenes access to her studio within her Italian home. The artwork she produces is portraiture ranging from oil paintings to charcoal sketches.

When speaking to Caroline I discovered in school she had a great love for textiles but painting has always been held in her heart. Studying in Florence Caroline was taught how to paint portraiture work. Although the skills art school taught Caroline she always worked hard to create her own style work, which in my opinion, she has. All of her portraiture work captures the character of her subjects whilst also displaying the physical attributes.

When working with charcoal on paper Caroline captures as much detail as possible when sketching her subject. Within her oil paintings on canvas she shows true skills as she transforms paint into almost 3D creations! She made a business for herself after making her work known in galleries and through the forces world, as her partner James is a military Doctor.

As people began to discover her work Caroline decided she wanted to be old fashioned in a sense, she creates her work from live subjects whenever she can. Her business is based around commissions and many people request Caroline to work from an image. Caroline works in her home studio, one in London and one in Naples. My Dad has always wanted a painting of my sister, Chloe and me.

Therefore he commissioned Caroline to paint a portrait of us both. We sat through two live sessions in which Caroline had us sat slightly above her and the easel, on seats placed on a raised platform.
